Mexico to overcome Group A

South African fans get ready to support their country in an opening battle against Mexico.

In less than 24 hours the beginning of the world cup games will begin. The first countries that will battle it out will be between Mexico & South Africa. Also France vs. Uruguay will take place that same date just hours later. These four countries are to play June 11, 2010 because they are all part of group A.
The top favorites to pass this group  are France, and Mexico. They are favorites because they have competitive players whom play in Europe like Mexico's Javier Hernandez (Manchester United's forward) and players for Europe like Frank Ribery (Bayern Munich mid-fielder). Uruguay has not been a favorite to win a world cup in years. Sure most of Uruguay's players play in strong teams in Europe like Diego Forlan (Atlético Madrid forward). The Uruguay squad plays well but when they come together as a nation and team up they seem to not play as good as they do in their clubs.

What Mexico needs to worry about in the group stage is getting in FIRST place. If Mexico is to conquer group A they face off in the elimination round against the second place winner of group B which could be South Korea or Nigeria. Two very strong teams with S. Korea having Ji-sung park (Manchester United's mid-fielder)and Nigeria having fans not too far from S.Africa. Statistically Mexico would win if it came down to Nigeria or S. Korea but if Mexico does not win group A in first place and instead in second they will be forced to play against Argentina which is favorite to win group B in first place.
Mexico does not want to play Argentina, if you recall the last World Cup in 2006 in Germany, Argentina eliminated Mexico in over-time with a far distance shot by Maxi Rodriguez. Aside from that Argentina also eliminated Mexico in the "Copa America" of South America in 2007. Since the World cup of 2006 Mexico has fronted Argentina twice with both encounters lost by Mexico.

Mexico is without a doubt in one of the hardest groups because you got the World Cup 2006 runner up France, the home team South Africa, and a not so bad Uruguay. However both Uruguay and France barely qualified to the World Cup this year. France defeating Ireland to get a spot in the world cup tournament as well as Uruguay defeating Costa Rica to earn its spot in the cup.
